the a1 was never a big surprise. mattias fridell s consumed for profit was one of the tracks of the year, and surely fridell s personal best track, and was played by anyone who at least plays a bit of techno in their sets. the usual fridell quality of standard and a tight synth line! a2 sees french artist electric rescue s quarries in the a. mochi remix. a peak-time banger, slapping the synth stabs right into your face. this one always gets the floor jumping. the b-side kicks off with label-head advance human s pure , stripping things down to some essential moody but slamming techno, right up there amongst his best productions. b2 has +platform s mosses closing things off, and as we came to know and love from +platform, it s out there, dubby and dreamy techno, born for those deeper berghainesque floors.

as the popularity of footwork has continued to soar, the range of sounds within the genre has expanded. from the angular, minimal beats of rp boo to the widely admired sound of sadly departed dj rashad, the genre has lovingly seeped into hearts and feet worldwide whilst continuing to innovate. until now most of the focus has been on the male dj/producers, but that is about to change. gary based producer jlin, who some of you might remember for her track *erotic heat* (bangs and works vol.2 – planet mu 2011), or from her moment in the mainstream light providing music for fashion designer rick owens f/w 14 paris runway show, is stepping further into the light with a stunning eleven track debut album *dark energy* showcasing her unique and bold new sound.

*sintetizzatrice* is the first recorded document of the newly founded collaboration between spectrum spools veteran donato dozzy and female vocalist anna caragnano.
though his solo work, and in his collaboration with giuseppe tilleci as voices from the lake, dozzy has achieved some of the most remarkable vistas contemporary electronic music has seen in the last decade. by removing himself from his areas of mastery to shift his focus on the voice, he has achieved a new peak. *sintetizzatrice* is the first work on spectrum spools featuring anna caragnano, a vocalist based in rome.

creme organization turn to the mysterious ivvvo and lisbon producer lake haze for a new single that comes backed with a remix from label regular legowelt. the single 1 is a hard hitting but fuzzy, misty and hugely spacious house track with deep jacking drums, haunting synths spiralling all around and freaky voices buried deep within. hugely atmospheric and lovably imperfect, it then gets remixed by legowelt. his version of the track flips it on its head, strips back some of the white noise fuzz and reimagines it as a driving techno cut with impish chords, retro arps and high pressure stabs. its a peak time bomb and ensures that this release is a high impact one indeed.

after 2 blinding releases on lies and russian torrents, the italian uprising techno producer domenico crisci lands on fellow italian marco shuttles label eerie with some serious, 909 driven, stripped down techno biz. no matter how pretentious it might sound these are tracks that gravitate quite comfortably in a mills-esque kind of orbit but they somehow also remind of early downwards brutal material. label boss marco shuttle features in the ep with a remix of one of the tracks (lash) bringing the original into a more broken, abstract and dark (of course) territory.

4th and final part of this legendary morris audio compilation series bringing some new (origins sound, manooz) and old faces (volta cab, julien sandre), but keeping the house vibe in different shades. up and coming origins sound (glasgow underground, lost) present a bassy pumping uk house tune whereas volta cab (kolour, hypercolour) goes back the the rave days and invites us to some hardcore heaven. the flipside starts with morris audio buddy julien sandre, who is still some kind of secret underground weapon, even if he already released on argys these days label or on tsuba. finishing off the ep is manooz (alive, extended play) with a great deep and raw house tune. this all is for you, seven daze a week!

victor calderone has stepped up for his first solo release on drumcode with his two track single, burden. featuring two energetic tracks, *skin* and *burden*, victor has used effected vocals to create funky rhythms over the top of some steaming kick drums. the synth stabs lend themselves well across this ep particularly in *burden* where they really augment the flow of the track. the use of percussion phrases throughout both tracks on the single also reinforces the grooves and adds character to create a distinctive sound that keeps the single fresh and exciting.

audiojack had a great 2014 with a collaborative release alongside lcd soundsystems nancy whang, eps on defected, 2020vision and tsuba, and remixes of romanthony and hot since 82 surfacing, here we see the ever on-point duo open up 2015 with some fresh material for their very own gruuv label. since launching gruuv back in 2010 the pair have unleashed material from the likes of huxley, jimmy edgar, darius syrossian, copy paste soul, a1 bassline and phil weeks, testament to their broadly attentive a&r approach with the imprint. now a year deep into their relocation to ibiza, audiojack have left behind their former uk influenced sound palette, and instead embraced their surroundings to envelop new material with the stripped back style of electronic music their new home turf is known for.

nebraska is someone who’s tracks we’ve been loving for a good few years now and finally managed to pin him down for a release here on delusions of grandeur. the uk producer is something of an enigma, and despite some amazing releases on rush hour still remains resolutely underground and seems to keep his releases to a minimum, focusing on keeping the quality high rather than flooding the market with average material. once again, he brings the real deal with three drum-heavy warehouse jams to nice-up the dancefloor. aw-right (mute version) sets the tone with a raw house groove that keeps things stripped to the bare minimum. a bouncing bassline and rattling percussion break help to define the track but it’s the dusty, dubby approach to the mix which really makes the track shine. next up we have warp and weft, a similar sounding track but by dropping the bpm’s nebraska has created a sublime low-slung, bumpy groove to really move to. flipping over we’re treated to the brilliant eighty eights which will have you nodding your head like the churchill’s dog before you can say ‘looped up piano and bass one bar groove repeated for over eight and a half minutes shouldn’t work should it?’

impossibly rare sweet soul & funk from the vaults of miami s bold records (a subsidiary of the mighty t.k. disco label). there s scant information on reid inc as a group but the album boasts some gorgeous soulful melodies from the all female personnel and features stellar string & horn arrangements from miami studio stalwart mike lewis (blowfly, kc & the sunshine band, latimore, fern kinney) & is produced by the mighty clarence reid who has written, recorded & produced too many records to list here (betty wright, wilson pickett, dusty springfield, bobby byrd, gwen mccrae) throughout his 50+ year career. this is a real rarity, a record that fetches top, top dollar ($500 plus) on-line among soul, funk & disco aficionados. -what am i gonna do- has been comped numerous times but this is the first time the whole lp has been re-mastered & re-issued on vinyl (having previously only been re-released on cd in japan) brought to you in conjunction & with the permission of t.k. disco / henry stone music, miami usa.

recent output has seen dorisburg pushing into deeper realms. computer drumming are some further steps in these explorations of 4/4 rhythms and acoustic depth. with a wide range in tempo, the track titles offers aid for the venturous. a1 is a reduced jam of echoing percussion that never sees the entry of a kick drum. a2 compensates with bouncing bass and a playful array of drumming elements entering and dropping off in a bold tempo. exiting on a more well established pulse, the b side consists of the deepest and most mysterious offering from dorisburg to date. distant bells and chimes and a grand formation of percussion meets thundering bass in an encounter set on vast grounds.

daniel savio - the swede who coined the term “skwee” back in 2006 when the first odd-sounding electro-funked and tempo-twirling 7inches came about from finland and sweden. his 6-track record for laton consists of true-to-the-game skwee sounds and rhythms incl. oriental-like melodies that has been penetrating the genre for years. harmonic in melody, diverse in tempo from the originator. laton presents some of the proprietors of skwee & the phenomenon of this fennoscandian sound with three different 12inches and a lp compilation. “holtiton” was originally released in 2012, limited and is back on demand.

from the prolific chicago house legend glenn underground comes 3 more dope re-edits: direct current (with some perfectly synced up and in key vocal drops from loleatta holloway), a hard to find groove from kellee patterson and azymuths brazil (extended from 3 mins to 11 on the b-side)

zenith positions is a 4 track collaboration between modularz label owner developer and italian producer and repitch label owner ascion. the two producers worked apart in their studios with a similar concept and idea to create a special ep fusing together vintage synthesizers, retro futuristic ideas and funk influenced rhythms with a modern feel. the ep as gained some strong support from all the major dj talents worldwide.

the soul notes imprint has never restricted itself to just one sound. ever since it emerged in late 2011, the basque county based outfit has shown several sides of its identity and has developed into a diverse and well balanced home. one of the labels usual suspects is cologne native, adryiano. after reaping some havoc with his efforts on the snx series early last year, adryiano has been crafting his down south ep (ironically) somewhere in the north rhine-westphalian concrete jungle. the down south ep is buldging with deep sine basses, fine rhythmic synthwork and lavish but hefty beats. the title track showcases these exact things best. the essence of adryiano s latest effort is still somewhat hard to pin down. a lot of different moods are going on throughout the ep while the overall sounds maintains it s own glance. from the deep machinefunk on down south to the broken beats of feel what you do. all of these bits have a nice theme to them.

adult only shape is back with an intriguing collaboration, between the mysterious frenchie monsieur georget and young parisian talent le loup. a combination of the old skool with the new skool, the sounds are just that. each take a pounding bass and a solid minimal-tech stance and layer their character on top. a1 is scattered with futuristic bleeps and computerised murmurs, interspersed with reminiscing vocals, while a2 is the most raw in nature, with a tough techno feel until the smooth overtones set in and a feeling of euphoria takes over. but some may say b1 is say arguably the standout track, for its intoxicating vocal and irresistible underlying swing and groove.

special dub version of mandingos original track, another night on earth. this is an extended alternate version of the original which appears on bc009_909 modern underground v.3. it sounds like a spaced out house groove with some chicago style stabs, jamaica style rubs and detroit style chords. this is a strictly limited one-sided 12 release.
